I often get a lot of questions on which is better for portraits, a sunset or a morning session. I have to honestly say I love them both. With the sunset you may win the sunset lottery and get a truly outstanding sunset (like the one last night, see attached picture) or it may be cloudy and you get no sunset at all. Most times there is at least a little orange in the sky. With mornings, you may also hit the jackpot and get clouds in front of the sun, but blue skies above the water as we did with the other attached picture (taken on Saturday AM). This makes the picture look almost as if there were studio lighting. You may also have a very clear day where the sun is really harsh or a very cloudy day with almost no blue sky. With outdoor photography, we just have to work with what Maui gives us. Either way, you are still on a beach in Maui, not a bad place to be!
As a side note, as you can see the couple from saturday is wearing santa hats, it is a great time to start thinking about if you want to use santa hats in your portrait session. Your maui beach portraits make great holiday cards!
