Family Portrait session at Po'olenalena - Maui Photographer Karma Hill

I almost hate to use the term "portraits' when referring to the time I spend with people while taking their pictures. When I think of the word "portrait" I think of a stiff photo where every hand and foot is placed by the photographer and everybody is looking at the camera and smiling perfectly. While that style has a place, I prefer to capture people in a more natural state. I like to find a great spot with nice lighting and a beautiful backdrop, then let my clients decide what they want to do. I do know the value of a great shot with the whole family looking at the camera and make sure to get some of these too, but at the same time, I want people comfortable, having fun and happy while they do it! I think this photo session is a good example of how I mix a more candid style with a few more "traditional" posed shots mixed in.

I had the pleasure of meeting the Fahey Family a few weeks ago at Po'olenalena beach. They were such fun, energetic, nice people and I think it really comes through in their images.
